In news from earlier this month that we haven't yet covered, Respawn Entertainment finally got to announce the game on which they're working for Lucasfilm. "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order" will be released in the 2019 holiday season, and we'll talk about what's known so far about the game and its setting in today's episode. Punch it!

We're about three months away from the launch of the new Star Wars animated TV series, Star Wars Resistance. That's a guesstimate - no debut date has been announced, but by looking at the season premiere dates for the four seasons of Star Wars Rebels on Disney XD, three months is a reasonable estimate. Voice actor Jim Rash revealed a bit about his and Bobby Moynihan's characters, and Star Wars Insider magazine just revealed who's doing the voice of lead character Kazuda Xiono. Plus, whose names are significantly missing from the announced cast so far? Punch it!

Occasionally, folks talk about what Lucasfilm could learn from Marvel in terms of using character movies to build up to one big extravaganza. But what if Lucasfilm is already doing it? And what if Solo: A Star Wars Story was the first shot (pun intended) at building toward a Star Wars Underworld blockbuster? What we know about movies in development helps to make the case... Punch it!

Sure, it might seem strange to suggest it, in light of the reviews that weren't as good as the three previous Disney/Star Wars movies, and the box office performance too. But that's actually one of the reasons why doing a sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story would be an idea worthy of the man himself, ol' George Lucas. I'll explain, and add six more reasons on top of it in today's episode.

If you've listened to the podcast for a while, you've probably heard me talk about being diagnosed with skin cancer in June 2017. I wasn't sure I wanted to talk about it on the podcast, but the number of people who've said it influenced them to make their own skin check appointments has been incredibly humbling. So in this bonus episode, I'm delivering the good news about being cancer free a year later, and hoping to inspire more people to get themselves checked...

Another country heard from, so to speak! It's still REALLY quiet, comparatively speaking, regarding the Collider report about Star Wars standalone movies being put on hold. But another publication, The Hollywood Reporter, is finally on the record about it, citing sources that seem to contradict the Collider report. The details are on the show today... Punch it!

Well, it took a bit longer than it did for the previous three Star Wars movies released under the Disney banner, but Solo: A Star Wars Story crossed the $200 million mark domestically and the $350 million mark worldwide during its fifth weekend of release. And with the pending purchase of Fox and its movies by Disney, will Disney in general and Star Wars in specific end up suffering because - in a sense - the studio (Disney) winds up competing with itself as often as it competes against other studios and their releases? Punch it!

Solo: A Star Wars Story takes place mostly in 10 BBY, with a prologue that takes place in 13 BBY. Where does that fit into the timeline of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story? You might be surprised, but there is a bit of a crossover... Punch it!

As far as Star Wars movies go, Solo: A Star Wars Story is a pretty crazy road trip. Most of the Star Wars movies only visit five planets or less (not counting the montages in Revenge of the Sith or ending of the special edition of Return of the Jedi). As for Solo, well, we'll talk about it on today's show, and we'll reveal which Star Wars movie does the most globe-trotting of all. Punch it!

It was a bit of a bombshell - Collider's report that Star Wars standalone movies have been put on hold. Then ABC News (like Lucasfilm, also owned by Disney) reports that it's not the case. EW's Anthony Breznican and Nerdist's Amy Ratcliffe haven't chimed in on it as of Thursday evening. But two usually-reliable spoiler sites have some insights that, when thrown into the mix, may help to clear up the rumors. Punch it!

Remember the scene in Solo: A Star Wars Story where L3-37 pulls a restraining bolt off of a droid, and it turns into a full-blown revolt? Well, the Solo: A Star Wars Story Official Guide explains why all those droids are there in the first place, which leads one to wonder - did the Kasdans actually come up with the whole justification themselves, or did Pablo Hidalgo come up with the reasons why afterward? I'll explain what I mean on the podcast... Punch it!

Aaron Goins of the Star Wars Bookworms podcast happened to catch Tom Kane (notably, the voice of Yoda in the Clone Wars and Rebels cartoons) on a panel at All-Star Comic Con this past weekend, and Tom said during the panel that there are at least nine Star Wars movies in development at Lucasfilm right now, including character movies that have yet to be announced, but a Yoda movie is not among them. let's take a look at what could be included in that count, and how many movies that means are still in the works to surprise us... Could Solo be making money all the way into September? Punch it!

In its third weekend, Solo: A Star Wars Story has been knocked out of the top spot in the box office by Ocean's 8, which turned out to have a better opening total than any of its own predecessors. The hand wringing about why Solo underperformed compared to expectations continues, and I'm addressing a new proposition - the idea that no one wants prequel films with a "young-so-and-so" character played by a new actor. Punch it!

It's been comparatively quiet on the Benioff and Weiss front. The showrunners of Game of Thrones, who will be developing their own series of Star Wars movies, are still hard at work wrapping up the final season of their hugely popular fantasy show on HBO. One of the stars of that show and Solo's Qi'ra, Emilia Clarke, has a rather provocative idea for what Star Wars under Benioff and Weiss might be like. Punch it!

We're still in pre-production for Star Wars: Episode IX, and the details are still very hush-hush. But there's been a change in the working title of the movie, and it tells us absolutely nothing about the content of Episode IX - much like "Red Cup" and "Space Bear" told us nothing about Solo or The Last Jedi. But chances are there's some hidden meaning behind the choice, because J.J. Abrams is involved. Is it a Tolkien homonym? A drag queen reference? All right, enough with the heavy stuff. Let's have some fun! Registration opened for Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019 on Tuesday, tickets and hotel blocks both. The organizers at ReedPOP also updated the Celebration website with a bunch of new details about the stages at the event, as well as some of the elements for which they'll be entertaining submissions from the fan public. I'm sharing all the details here in our first SW7x7 SWCC 2019 Update. Punch it!

There are some folks who would have you believe that half of Star Wars fans thought The Last Jedi was the worst offense ever committed against the franchise. And those folks would have you believe they're the reason why Solo: A Star Wars Story is doing so poorly at the box office, because they voted with their feet.

I've had a few people suggest that I'm ignoring this situation or not understanding its magnitude. So I'm going to address it head-on in today's podcast. We're going to talk about review-bombing and why the user scores on sites like Rotten Tomatoes can't be trusted, even if you assumed that every review on there was true and unique. And we're going to do the math to show why, even if you assumed the negative response was 10 times as large as Rotten Tomatoes says it is, it's only a drop in the bucket compared to Solo's overall box office performance. Punch it!

There was a time when making nearly $265 million in 10 days would have been considered remarkable! Not so anymore, considering the budget that Solo: A Star Wars Story had to work with (reshoots included). And especially considering the last three Star Wars movies each took home a haul north of a billion dollars. Scoundrel Business in today's podcast... Punch it!

Okay, once more with feeling. The notion of "brand fatigue" can express itself in different ways. I took a very informal poll in a few Star-Wars-focused Facebook groups where it would be unlikely to encounter the sorts of people who have been raging about The Last Jedi, with the intent of exploring an idea - had people gone to see the new Star Wars movies less often with each new release? Not out of liking or not liking, but because of other (and possibly fatigue-related) factors? Punch it!

The first three new Star Wars movies were about 50/50 in terms of their North American box office versus their non-North-American box office. Solo: A Star Wars Story is not - it's much stronger in North America versus the rest of the world. What gives? Deadline Hollywood tried to get some answers, and I've got questions (and answers) about the answers from some of their anonymous industry sources. Punch it!

Yeah, yeah, Thor: Ragnarok came out in November, and Black Panther came out in February, and Avengers: Infinity War came out in April, and they were all boffo at the box office, so is this brand fatigue thing real? Why yes, it's a real thing! Maybe not the *whole* thing, but worth considering. And in today's episode, I'm talking about the other reason why you can't compare the MCU of 2018 to the Star Wars of 2018. It has to do with all of those Marvel end-credits scenes... Punch it!

While we wait to see how Solo: A Star Wars Story does at the box office in its second weekend, I thought I'd take a deeper look at the idea of "brand fatigue" as it (potentially) relates to Star Wars. One of the main arguments against the brand fatigue theory is the case of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Folks are saying, "Look at Black Panther and Infinity War coming out within two months of each other, and both of them are making tons of money. How could anyone be tired of Star Wars by comparison?"

Well, the issue is that we should be comparing this new era of Star Wars to the *start* of the MCU in 2008, and not what the MCU looks like in 2018. Not to mention that everyone who says Lucasfilm has released "four movies in three and a half years" is doing the math wrong (and I didn't catch it myself until this very episode). Punch it!
